Spend quality time with your cat during the holidays

During the holidays, you have plenty of time to take care of your cat, right? But what should you do with her? Contrary to popular belief, a cat needs to play just as much as a dog does. It’s necessary for both her physical and mental balance .

Playing with your cat will stimulate her hunting instinct, which is essential for equilibrium and allows her to stretch her legs. Use your imagination and whatever’s at hand. Here are some ideas:

  • Cats love chasing and catching balls. Buy small, sturdy balls from the pet store and watch your companion chase her “prey” from one end of the house to the other.
  • An even more economical idea is to fill a small container with crumpled paper. Your cat will have fun for hours – while you do nothing but sit back and watch.
  • If you have multiple cardboard boxes, put them together to create a kind of labyrinth with hiding places. Stand next to the exit of the labyrinth and call your cat; the goal is for her to find her way out just by following your voice.
  • Create a makeshift fishing rod. Attach two pieces of string to the end. Affix a small wooden stick to one piece of string (a chopstick or piece of a wooden garden stake) and to the other, feathers or a cork. Wave the fishing road in front of your cat so she can catch the wood or the the feathers. The fastest catch wins!
  • Weather permitting, you can also enjoy training your cat to play outside on a leash. This will take time and patience, two things that are sorely lacking when we work – so the holidays are the perfect time!
Why is grooming important for my pet?

You might think grooming your pets is just to keep them looking good. But it's also about maintaining your pet's physical health.

Grooming helps to remove dead hair, dirt, tangles and dandruff. While you brush, the natural oils spread through your pet's fur, leaving the coat with a healthy sheen.
